The Bride-to-be wanted a chill at-home paint party with the girls. However, we were shocked at the lack of unique painting tutorials online. Sure, there are gnome, flower, and landscape designs as far as the eye can see, but it didn’t exactly match the vibe of this particular group of classy ladies. How about something with aliens? Perhaps a Chupacabra? Something spooky? Hell, we couldn’t even find a d*ck pic one! You know, to be festive. So we settled on a nice design of flowers in a vase.
To quote the devious Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg, “If you want something done, do it yourself!”
I decided to start Paint Party Monster to offer up fun and fringe art tutorials for those looking for something a bit more “out there”. Whether you’re a beginner looking to learn, a fellow artist wanting to shut your stressed brain off with something fun, or someone who just enjoys watching the process, I hope you find my content enjoyable and informative!
…now I feel like there’s going to be a question about kids. Kids like to paint and learn, so does this mean this blog is kid friendly? Well, the way to judge is to ask yourself, ‘would I let my child freely roam a Spencer’s Gifts at the mall?’. If your answer is yes, we’re good! If your answer is no, maybe review before showing any youths.
Paint Party Monster was conceived at a Bachelorette party.
Hi! My name is D’Ana.
When I grew up in Washington state, I was your typical quiet art kid, drawing at all hours of the day. Cut to moving to Arizona during my most awkward teen form, which inspired me to go full-blown “my life is art”. My favorite medium was acrylic on whatever posterboard I could find (usually on the back of confiscated yard signs thanks to my HOA President stepdad), and I was so proud of each and every angsty teen painting I completed.
Then sweet, stupid 18 year old me went straight to college after graduating, attending a certain for-profit art school in Phoenix. While I learned some new and valuable skills while making a few lifetime friends, I also experienced burnout and completely lost my love of art. What followed was a decade of various jobs that all involved sitting behind multiple screens. My confidence was deflated and I drifted away from my creativity.
But no worries, Baby Doll. This is where the uplifting part comes in. I’ve been working on myself and things are looking up! I’m ready to reconnect with art through my original love of painting. That’s the big ol’ secret about this whole operation I’m running here. Every Paint Party Monster post is another step towards reconnecting with art, and an exercise in building up confidence in my skills and myself. You’re helping me heal! Isn’t that neat? Thanks for being here, friend.
